Why we follow a design-build approach.

You have spent months, or even years, dreaming about your home remodel, but the reality can often be exhausting and stressful. Realizing your dream home doesn’t have to be this way. At Custom Design and Construction, we believe the benefits of a Design-Build approach make it the most effective way to help you realize your dream home. This process makes a usually daunting process as seamless as possible.

According to The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), this method is the most efficient way to build. One of the benefits of a design-build approach is that it is also the most cost-effective way to achieve your dream project. We have used this method for nearly 40 years, with our dedicated teams ready to manage each stage of the process. We are here to make your home remodel as stress-free and exciting as possible.

Discovery phase

Any home remodel begins with a dream and a plan, and the design-build approach begins with  the discovery phase. This starts with sitting down with our Design Team who will spend time getting to really know you, as well as your dreams and ideas for the project. How this works will be tailored to you. This might mean looking at saved photos from social media, sharing your Pinterest boards, or just defining what your personal style is. Our team’s job is to take your rough ideas and mood boards and help realize them into a coherent plan. It is only when everyone is happy with the initial choices and plans that we will move on to the next phase.

Project development

Here, with the Architectural Team, those half-formed ideas and mood boards finally begin to take proper shape, with our highly skilled team there to help fine-tune those initial plans and make adjustments if needed. One of the benefits of design-build, is that the Design Team is still involved at this stage. This means you can make any last minute changes regarding the specific materials and paint right until the build begins, perfect for anyone who struggles with making up their mind!

The Architectural Team will also submit all the documentation to the relevant planning agency, taking one of the most stressful parts off your plate. Their expertise and experience help simplify this often complicated process, and fewer complications mean fewer delays and less expense.

Once everything is approved and your decisions have been finalized, the work can begin, and your dream can become a reality!

Bring it to life

This is where things begin to get exciting and where you can finally see your dreams and plans become a reality. Here, the Production Team takes the reins and begins the construction of your project. You will have your own dedicated Production Manager and team who will be on site daily, which means you will receive real-life updates on how everything is going. This lets you feel more involved in the process and you can personally make any adjustments or changes as they arise.

One of the great benefits of a Design-Build approach is that if the Production Team does find anything that is problematic, the Project Manager is there to discuss it with you immediately. They can also involve the Design and Architectural Teams to come to a quick solution, which helps avoid those costly delays that drive the budget up and up. Our collaborative approach means that problems and hiccups can quickly be solved and your deadline can still be met.

What are the benefits of a design-build approach?

Another benefit of a design-build approach we love is how it really is a united team effort. Managing the project yourself, you may well find yourself juggling several teams and companies. This can be a nightmare when you are trying to coordinate building work and ensuring your vision is followed, and you will inevitably find yourself waiting for returned phone calls and emails. Sadly, all this waiting around can cause delays and cost money.

Everything at Custom Design and Construction is handled in-house by one of our designated teams. The reality of this is that when an issue arises, we can simply walk over to the desk of the expert we need and discuss a solution. As a homeowner, this also allows you to keep involved in each stage and decision. This makes the result truly feel like your dream home, just one of the benefits of a design-build approach.
