Surviving A Remodel: A Client’s Perspective III

437 Kansas-7.jpgWe asked a few of our clients to share with us what their remodeling experience was like, and any tips they have for homeowners considering a renovation.

Below are the answers we received from a homeowner in El Segundo who recently remodeled their great room / kitchen and powder room with Custom Design & Construction.

Q: What was the main reason you wanted to remodel?

We had just purchased the home and although it was beautiful the kitchen, guest bath and family room were not our style.  They also were not meant to function the way that we intended to use the space.   We frequently entertain and really needed a space that was primed for that.  We also wanted to replace our entire first floor with hardwood flooring.  It had travertine when we purchased it.

Q: What was the design process like?

Beth has incredible design talent and creativity. We had reservations about using black cabinets in our kitchen but decided to trust her design suggestions!  I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Q: What was it like having us in your home during this process?

From the beginning everyone was friendly and professional. Randy, the project manager, was very easy to work with and sensitive to our needs during construction. They even built a temporary fence for our dogs so that they were not disrupted! He met with us every week to discuss any problems or updates.

Q: Were there any specific struggles for you during this process?  Things that didn’t go as anticipated?

We have built two homes in the past but this was our first remodel! It turned out better than expected and we would not hesitate to use Custom Design and Construction again!

Q: If there was something you could share with others getting ready to remodel, what would you share with them?

I recommend that anyone who is looking to remodel utilize www.Houzz.com to view examples of companies work and to be able to see what people say about them since there are reviews from verified clients and companies that they partner with.  I have found that design – build companies are ideal to work with for me as they are a one-stop shop for the entire process.

Q: Anything else you what to share?

Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster for your entire family / household.  Having people in your home daily is a lot.  You don’t have access to every space and thing that you normally would and you don’t have as much privacy!  Also, it impacts your pets as well.  It’s not a reason to not remodel but be realistic with yourself as to what the impact will truly be.  Best of luck!
